Fitting Upgrades
Here you can find my guide, a step by step to fitting common aftermarket upgrades. Split into each piece, although I have featured certain parts from certain manufacturers 99% of the time the installation is the same.
Fitting Blade Grips/Replacing Feathering Shaft
Firstly looking at the top of the heli or the head, then remove the two screws retaining the blades.
As shown here
Ok once removed you need to take the feathering shaft out. For the purposes of this i have removed the rotor hub, you can also do this it just makes installation a little easier. Just unscrew the screw on the rotor housing and pull it upwards and off.
Once you have this off, take a flat head screw driver and a phillips (Supplied with your kit) and undo the two screws in either end of the fearthing shaft, once one is removed simply pull the blade grips apart watching for the brass step washers.
Now if you are replacing the feathering shaft then simply follow these instructions in reverse, noting the direction of your brass step washers.
If you are fitting aftermarket upgraded blade grips please continue.
Firstly take your new grips *Please note these are the Xtreme Production blades and have and extra radial washer* (If your adding a new rotor head as well check below)
Once you have the rotor housing ensure you know where the parts go together *Also note in the picture below the brass washers go in between the rotor housing and the grip not shown*
Now simply slide the feathering shaft through the first grip, not forgetting in this case to include the silver washer on the outside of the grip and the brass washer on the inside. Slide it through the damper on the rotor housing and through the other side sliding the brass washer onto the inside. Then take the last grip and slide it onto the feathering shaft and add the silver washer. Replace the screws on either end of the feathering shaft not forgetting a drop of locktite.
If you removed the head and centre hub then replace and tighten the screw on the main shaft in its locating hole. It should then once again look like this:
You have now completed the task at hand (Pat on back)
Fitting Center Hub
If you are adding a new centre rotor hub then i presume you have read the previous guide, and have it removed. Next take your new centre hub.
and follow the above guide to replace the feathering shaft and blade grips, you should end up with something like this;
Once it is all back together and the movement is free and smooth then take the complete head and replace ontop of the main shaft, pass the screw through and tighten the nut on the other side
Fitting Swash Plate
Fitting or replacing a new swash plate is extremely easy, if you follow the above guides to remove centre hub your more than 50% of the way there. Not forgetting to pop of the ball links. you should have something that looks like this.
Next take the new swashplate, in this case the Xtreme production swash plate.
Slide the old plate up and off of the main shaft, if you lightly bend the anti rotation bracket it should come very easily. Once the swash is out it should look like this.
Next take the new swashplate and slide it onto the main shaft.
Again gently bend the anti rotation bracket and slide it down to the bottom. Next replace the ball links and your new swash is complete.
Then reverse the steps from the first guide to replace the rotor housing and grips to complete the process.
Nice work!
